I am still buzzing from an amazing weekend. I have been teaching and learning and the teaching some more. I did a two-day workshop with Ashtanga Yoga Master David Swenson, in between teaching my own yoga classes. I would teach classes then go to the workshop then go teach another class. I felt like a little kid so engaged by David's story telling. It was a wonderful experience to learn so much new stuff and then implement that knowledge into my classes that I was teaching right away. I have definitely found my passion and my calling. The more I connect to yoga the more I enjoy other people.
As I reflect on my competitive career in Fitness I am disappointed in the lack of connected-ness in the sport as I have seen and experienced it so far. I guess after years of training on my own in a sport that doesn't really require you to focus on anything but yourself, I now really appreciate coming into a room full of people that are there to feel good, be happy, be free, to share and explore through their yoga practice. As a teacher I get to connect with so many new people and create an environment that is non-judgmental, supportive, caring, nurturing and strength building. Although I am often in a room of strangers’ especially when I am subbing a class I still feel a sense of community and family when we practice together. This is something I want to continue inviting into my life. What a gift to be able to connect to people rather than compete against them. More thoughts to come soon...
