MY POWER DETOX JOURNEY

For the past 7 months I have been teaching boot-camp, yoga and spinning classes in Phuket, Thailand.  I have worked almost everyday, motivating, supporting and encouraging others to move towards better health, happiness and well being. I love what I do so it has been an amazing journey.

I have been driven as an athlete for so many years that it can be hard to know when to slow down and give the nervous system a break. I love teaching so much that it's easy for me to end up doing too much. My personal challenge is learning how create space so that I can have some down time long enough to recharge my own battery.

  Two weeks ago I found myself so fatigued that I went to the hospital sure that I was sick with something. I had been suffering from chronic fatigue and was unable to even think about training. In my mind I wanted to train in every class I taught, believing I must practice what I preach.  As I was encouraging my students to stay focused on their training, I felt my training was drastically slipping away.  My coffee and sugar intake began to increase as my lack of personal motivation decreased. I honestly felt like I was falling apart. When the Dr. at the hospital got all my blood work back he looked at me oddly and said, “there’s nothing wrong with you, all your blood work is fine, I suggest you start exercising more”. I realized then that I was mentally exhausted and it was time to take better care of my own health and wellness.  I must practice what I preach by adding a little more YIN to my YANG. Being at a fitness camp with non-stop action and training can leave you a little unbalanced if you don't take a time out once in a while.

 I decided to check into Atamanjai  Detox Centre here in Phuket at 4pm on Tuesday evening
June 26, 2012, by 6:30pm  I was asleep for the night.

6:30am morning view at Atmanjai

So here I am now on day 3 of a week long detox program. I have committed myself to a full week of no food after completing 2 days of eating only RAW Food.  I have cut myself off of everything; meat, dairy, wheat, caffeine, sugar, absolutely everything. This is all in the hopes of getting some of my vitality back.

Today was definitely the most challenging day so far. I’ve been adgusting to a new routine that is the opposite of what I’m used too.  I’m used to eating every 2-3 hours multiple times a day and I LOVE coffee. Today I’ve had terrible headaches from caffeine withdrawals. All I want to do is sleep, which is probably the best thing for me. On a high note, my skin feels great from the cleansing and saunas.
Daily morning supplement

 Here’s a look at my days schedule while detoxing

7am- a shake made of clay, silium husk and magnesium (not the best tasting drink)
7:30-8:30- A gentle yoga practice – Yes I need that!
8:30-9:00- Check in time to become clear about Intentions (I like this part too)

9:00- Take blood pressure and weight- I weighed in at 61.9 KL on day one
9:30- Time for the colema- a coffee colema that takes about 45 min to complete. We do 2 of these per day. I'm whipped out after this session so I go for an hour nap. I feel like a bit of a zombie coming off of caffeine, sugar and food.

Colema Room

10:30- another shake followed up by some apple cider tea

11:30 – Dose of supplements for cleansing

12:00- Oil massage- loved it, best part of the day

1:00- another shake

1:10-2:00pm- Ultrazonic Zapper to remove parasites- I fall asleep for this one.

The Zapper

2:30pm- More supplements for cleansing
4:00pm- another shake
4:00pm- second Colema- this time its with garlic

4:30pm- Sauna

6:00pm- Supplements and some clear broth soup for dinner (yay)

Herbs for dinner soup

6:30pm- Movie Time or mediation also possibility of an outing to the night market.

On my second night we watched a great movie called FAT SICK AND NEARLY DEAD.
 Very inspiring!

Positive Thoughts

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Inspiration

 Never underestimate the power of your example. ! Give the people what they want and show them what they can't see; be that force of beauty and bold genius. We spend most our lives cutting down our ambitions because the world has told us to think small. Dreams express what your soul is telling you...so continue to live the magic of your every dream.

Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it.

Raw Thoughts about teaching at the Phuket Fitness Fesitval2012-05-14

Hi Guys There is so much I love about living in Thailand and working with Tiger Muay Thai. This weekend was the first Phuket Health and Fitness Festival run by the Rawai Niharn group. I was invited as a representative of Tiger Muay Thai to teach Yoga at Niharn Lake and do a presentation on Raw Training . Niharn is normally where I take my brave Thursday bodyfitters for beach training. This time my class participants were brave in a different way. A large percentage of the group had come from Atmanji a detox center in Rawai. Many had not eaten food for over 10 days!!! While this on some levels horrifies me I love my food ???? I do support the mechanics behind fasting to heal and cleanse the body. Fasting is a great way to start transformation. Provided you have the right support both physically and mentally the commitment required to complete a fast is exactly what you need to develop and achieve big lifetime change. So my hungry class members rolled out their mats next to Tiger members who were aching from hiking big Buddha with weighted packs on there back. Talk about a mixed bag!! Regardless of the state they were in when they started I am happy to say that we all left the lake with a post yoga glow and a desire for breakfast. Sadly some don't always get what they want

After my eggs ;-), it was time for the Raw Fitness Presentation. This was a great opportunity for me to brag about you guys, my amazing Tiger Crew! Let me take this time to remind you, how amazing you are. I showed a short video of our Raw Training sessions and the crowd was in awe. The sight of you guys sweating it out and working together to make transformation happen was powerful, impressive and inspiring. I acknowledge you all, Rock on Tiger Crew!!

One of the things that I believe is a great contributor the power that you guys possess is that many of you have come to Tiger because you have had enough of how things are at home. Relationship breakdowns, unsatisfying work, no work, health issues or the loss of a loved one to name but a few. You have reached a point where you are raw. From this place you find your power. During my presentation a girl shared with the room that she has been diagnosed with cancer. She is at raw. It was a wonderful experience to connect with her and I am extremely grateful that she shared this with me. Every time you share something that is hard to say you become a little stronger. Every time you share you help yourself and those you share with. When I was not teaching or talking, I was able to participate in several of the other festival activities on offer. I learnt the art of Indian Head Massage, how to drop negative habits, did some Kundalini yoga and learnt more about having a healthy body mind and spirit. There were presenters from all over the world and it was a great weekend. I look forward to the next one and I hope to see you there

Before then though, I am sure to see you sweating it out at Tiger on the mats, bikes, and mountain or at the beach. Another week of hard-core Raw fitness, yoga, spin and x and body fit…bring it on!! I will leave you with the words I spoke at the end of my Sunday morning yoga class. "There great bbq chicken over there lets go get some!"

Namaste
